The Benefits Of Wearing Alpaca Socks

By Helga Stokes

For those that have worn alpaca clothing before, they already know just how soft and comfortable these garments can be. The fleece used from alpacas can be used to make everything from scarves and hats to gloves and even socks. Alpaca socks are a great option for your feet for many reasons.

The items made with this fleece have only recently become popular worldwide, but using it for the purposes of clothing has been around for centuries. In Peru, villagers are well aware of it's benefits and have known about them for a long time. They often use items made from the material because it is so breathable in a hot climate.

Items, such as this, are fairly common in many parts of the world. Both sweaters and blankets are also made from the fleece and have recently become popular in many new areas as well. Each item has it's own benefits, of course, but socks have some really unique ones.

Socks made from the material have a dense construction, but are still very breathable. They are a warmer option for wearing during frigid temperatures, but they also keep the feet cooler during humid temperatures because the feet do not excessively sweat while wearing them. Even with it is wet, is still maintains both of these properties very well, although cotton and wool do not. This reason is why they are perfect for many different types of activities, since wet feet will not cause any issues.

Items made from this fleece are also highly durable, some lasting a lifetime without showing any significant signs of wear. The fibers of the material do not break down like cotton and wool as long as proper care is given. Other countries often pass down the clothing made for the material, from generation to generation, because the items are so long lasting. Several generations can easily get a lot of use from a single item because they do not show signs of aging and wear quickly, unlike other materials.

The cost of most fleece items is often a little higher than more traditional choices, such as cotton, but the value is worth the price. A little bit higher cost for the items is largely due to sourcing of the material and it not being a commonly used options in clothing manufacturing. The difference in cost, however, is not large enough to put the items in an unaffordable range.

One other added benefit of this material is how much comfort is provides to the wearer. Some materials, like wool, can be pretty harsh on the skin. Alpaca fleece is very soft, almost silk like. It is a hypoallergenic material as well, so risk of skin reactions are greatly reduced. People with sensitive skin can especially benefit from wearing items made from the material.

Alpaca socks come in a wide variety of options, with there being 22 different natural colors of the fleece available. Matching to clothing is easy with so many options to choose from. The comfort and high durability they offer also makes them a good choice for giving as gifts. Many people believe socks are not a great gifting choice, but their unique properties actually make them different than socks made from other types of materials.
