Is Replacement Water Heater Needed?

By Brian Winters

All heating devices would eventually stop working that is why encountering water heater issues is perfectly normal. Water heater issues can lead to a large-scale repair if the problems are not addressed on time. When this happens, you might as well buy a new unit instead of spending a lot of money in costly water heater repairs. Contact your trusted plumber to get professional advice, whether you need to buy a replacement unit or not.

Before carrying out repairs, it is important to turn off the heating source of the unit. Do not take this lightly since a water heater can convert into a dangerous heating device if not handled properly. Close the water supply valve and wipe puddles of water near the unit to prevent unfortunate accidents.

If you keep on getting varying temperatures, check the thermostat settings. Someone may have adjusted the temperature without you knowing it. If not, it is safe to assume that you have a faulty thermostat. Replace it immediately and feel if the water temperature has changed. You may have to replace your water heater if the problem persists.

Internal tank lining and components can deteriorate faster if you let the sediments sit inside the tank for a long time. At this point, expect your heater to run with poor heating efficiency as it consumes more energy at the same time. If you've always wanted to cut back on your electric bill, consider buying a replacement instead.

If your unit is leaking, check the pipes and valves if they are tightened properly. Keep in mind that not all leaking issues require a replacement. Do not over tighten the pipes to avoid further damage. Your unit may leak more often due to condensation if you live in within an area of a colder climate. Simply wait for a few minutes until the leaks stop.

To fight against rust and corrosion, the anode rod should be in good condition at all times. This sacrificial rod is responsible for protecting the tank from rusting as it absorbs all the charged water molecules inside the tank. Once your see metal wiring around the rod, replace it immediately.

A replacement unit is needed if the sediments can no longer be flushed out of the tank. This is your only choice if you don't want rusty-colored water coming of your hot water taps. You can avoid this through regular flushing and draining of the water heater on a semi-annual basis.

Do not hesitate to ask advice from a specialist in selecting the best heater for your household. Doing this will help you choose a unit that can meet your hot water needs. Avoid inconvenience by doing your research before buying one.
