By Acosta Rey

Let's accept it â€" nobody awakens in the morning considering their plumbing. So far as they are troubled everything is working fine. Then out of no where the hackneyed stuff hits the fan, and there's a plumbing catastrophe. It becomes a race to find a qualified plumber. The truth of the matter is most occurrences may be evaded. The goal of this article is to share 1 or 2 tips with you to help avoid ever having to suffer through a plumbing catastrophe.

With over 15 years in the business I feel comfortable in saying that I have seen it all. Wretchedly enough over 90% of the situations that I have faced could have been avoided if the property owner would've been privy to the tips that I am going to share with you.

Acosta Plumbing Tip 1

Exercise water shut-off valves. Slowly move them forwards and backwards to keep them from getting stuck. I will not begin to tell you how many times I have went to a site and there was water spewing everywhere simply to find the shut-off valve was stuck. The time it took us to relax the valves was more time that the property was a victim of water damage.

Acosta Plumbing Tip 2

Whenever you go on holiday make sure to shut off the water supply to the washer. This is a frequent cause of water damage in several cases.

Acosta Plumbing Tip 3

When DIY turns in to a bad dream. With all of the DIY TV shows turning up daily everyone thinks they are definitely a pro... UNTIL... Something goes wrong! That's when I get the call to come and make things right. I appreciate the business, and I believe that it is necessary to note that those DIY shows don't show everything.

Acosta Plumbing Tip 4

Most water heaters have a 10 to 11 year survival expectancy. The installation date is mostly on the hot water heater. If yours is past the date due it is a great idea to have it inspected by a pro. You have no wish to wait until disaster hits, when a simple inspection could help you avoid major water damages.

Acosta Plumbing Tip 5

If your water bill is beyond control it's the time to take a hike around your property and look for running toilets, and dripping faucets. Those small drips might be costing you a lot of money over a period of time.
