When one is exposed to sun rays, their skin produces melanin which makes one to have a tanned skin. Vitamin D is very important in the body since it enables the bones to form well. Lack of this essential vitamin can lead to a person having rickets which may not be treatable. As someone is letting their skin to self tan, they can also get vitamin D which is essential in their bodies.

The sunless tan lotions that people may consider using are not very effective in achieving a tan. This is because one has to apply them for a while before they can notice any change. This means that one has to spend a lot of money buying large quantities of these lotions so that they can use them for a long period of time. This can be quite expensive especially for a person who is on a budget. This type of self tan is however much more effective and is not costly.

The sun is good but if not made use of appropriately it can lead to great skin damage. Exposure to ultra violet rays without SPF protection while one is self tanning can lead to one getting cancer. Several studies have indicated that too much exposure to ultra violet rays during self tanning can be dangerous considering someone has to stay in the sun for around ten minutes without sunscreen in order to achieve the tan they desire.
